CP-221 COMPUTER NETWORKS I

This course provides the student with a functional understanding of general
Networking theory and essential concepts. The student will gain hands-on implementation experience in different Networking situations and the course of action to be taken to remedy the problems. The student will gain practical hands-on experience setting
up a typical Network (LAN) using various Network architectures and popular Network operating systems (NOS). Conceptual topics will include: Network
concepts, Network Design essentials, Network
media, Network communications and protocols,
Network Administration and Support, Enterprise
and distributed Networks, Wide area and Large
scale Networks, solving Network problems, understanding and using Internet resources. The course also provides the knowledge
needed to prepare for Networking Certification
Exam. PREREQUISITE: CP-101
CP-223 COMPUTER HARDWARE TECHNOLOGY
3 credits
This course will teach the student to become proficient in the inner workings of a micro-computer. It is a hands-on class that will cover the replacement
of all parts inside the PC, including the motherboard,
memory chips, expansion cards, modems, floppy, hard and CD-ROM drives, CPU chips, and
power supply units. The student will also learn
about electricity, formatting hard drives, device drivers, loading an operating system
as well as loading application software. The class will feature lectures as well as hands-on exercises that will
allow the student to disassemble and reassemble
microcomputers. (This course should be taken
in the last semester at the Associate level.)Non-Majors
should have completed 24 credits. PREREQUISITE: CP-221
CP-225 UNIX/LINUX

An introduction to the use and management of Unix-based computer systems. Students will learn advanced user functions
as well as Unix system administration. Topics
will include establishing and maintaining security, file system management, cash scripts, control of networks, multi-user environments, and inter-process control. PREREQUISITE: CP-101
CP-227 END-USER SUPPORT

This course is designed to give the student a conceptual approach to end-user
support. The explosion of computer usage has
created a high demand for computer support specialists to provide technical assistance, support, and advice to customers and other users. Students will be introduced to a wide range of topics including: customer service skills, hardware and software troubleshooting, and common support problems. PREREQUISITE: CP-221
CP-230 ADVANCED DATABASE
3 credits
This course is designed for those individuals who want to enhance their knowledge
of Microsoft Access, an industry standard Windows-based
database. Students will explore advanced Database
Management features including advanced filters,
macros, select queries, creating inner and outer
joins, and operating Access on the Web. Through
database concepts and “hands-on” experience,
students will obtain technical skills such as
designing and creating Switchboard, PivotTables,
PivotCharts, importing and exporting XML documents
into a database and the creation on MDE files.
Upon successful completion of this course, students
will be able to design, create and use complex
databases. PREREQUISITE: CP-130
CP-231 MULTIMEDIA AUTHORING
3 credits
Students will learn to develop multimedia applications using a variety of software and hardware tools. Multimedia
software using text, graphics, video, audio,
animation and interactive links will be used
to organize and present different kinds of information in a variety of media formats. Students will design, create and edit multimedia applications for use in
presentations and training material. PREREQUISITE:
