CRIMINAL JUSTICE
The American Criminal Justice System is organized into three major divisions:
law enforcement, corrections, and courts. Each
sub-divides into a variety of agencies, and
all offer a wide range of both traditional and
non-tradi-tional career opportunities. The system,
its sub-divisions, and many of its employment
opportunities exist in part or whole at all
four levels of government: city, county, state,
and national.
Monroe College’s unique location, New York City – home to the nation’s largest
police department and municipal court systems
– surrounded by large populous counties
– in a state with the nation’s largest state level criminal justice system makes
it an ideal conduit for qualified criminal justice
employees to all levels and sub divisions of
the system.
The Bachelor of Science degree prepares students for entry-level positions
in more than 68 federal law enforcement agencies, state and federal correctional counseling and treatment programs,
court management and administration units, probation and parole depart-ments, specialized security organizations, state police , and a wide variety of other criminal
justice employers.
The degree provides students currently employed in criminal justice with competencies
and credentials necessary for career development, management positions, and promotional opportunities.
And the Bachelor’s curriculum is an excellent
preparation for graduate or professional study
in criminal justice and related fields.
