Students’ academic progress will be reviewed at the end of each semester.
Because the college does not transfer
letter grades, students who transfer from
another institution will be placed on
the qualitative chart according to the
semester that corresponds to the number of their accepted transfer credits. If they do not meet the corresponding required GPA at the end of their first
semester, they will be placed on probation.
They will have to meet the required standard
at the end of their second semester in
order to remain in good academic standing.
READMIT STUDENTS AND TRANSFER CREDITS
Students who are readmitting to the college and are transferring in credits
from another institution may request
that a class taken at another institution
to replace a failed class and/or withdrawn
class taken at Monroe be transferred
in with a grade. Such transferred grades
will be used in computing the student’s
GPA.
QUANTITATIVE STANDARD
Students are also expected to make satisfactory progress toward the completion
of their degree. To this end, students are required to earn a certain percentage of credits attempted. To demonstrate
satisfactory progress, students must meet the following requirements:
- During semesters 1 through 3, students must earn at least 50* percent of all
credit courses attempted.
- During semesters 4 through 12, students must earn at least 67* percent of all
credit courses attempted.
- Students may not attempt more than 90-credits to earn the 60-credits needed for
the Associate degree or 180-credits
to earn the 120-credits needed for the
Bachelor’s degree.
* Percentages will be rounded up to a whole number.
Students must be citizens or eligible non-citizens in order to receive Title
IV Aid.
STUDENTS CHOSEN FOR VERIFICATION
The Federal Department of Education may select a student for verification, which means that specified items must be verified, i.e.
income for student and/or parent, household
size, number in college. Documentation
may be requested. Students usually have a maximum of 120 days to submit the required
documentation. Failure to submit documentation
in a timely manner will result in loss
of Title IV aid.
THE EFFECT OF WITHDRAWALS, REPEAT COURSES, INCOMPLETES AND NON CREDIT REMEDIAL
COURSES
A course with a grade of W or AW will be included as a course attempted. A
grade of W will not be considered when
calculating a student’s GPA. A course
with a grade of I will be considered as
a course attempted and will be calculated
with a 0.0 GPA.
A first-time repeated course will not be counted as a course attempted. Subsequent
repeat attempts will be counted as courses
attempted. A noncredit remedial course
will not be considered when calculating
a stu-dent’s GPA and will not be considered
as a course attempted.
PROBATION
A student who fails to achieve the quantitative standards outlined is placed
on probation. Students who are on probation
must achieve the required quantitative
standards by the completion of the probationary semester in order to regain federal
financial aid eligibility.
Students on probation remain eligible for financial aid; however, they may
lose eligibility for TAP if they have
not met New York State’s program pursuit,
pursuit levels or academic standards.
LOSS OF TITLE IV ELIGIBILITY
A student who falls into one of the following categories will be subject to
loss of Title IV eligibility:
-
Students who fail to achieve the qualitative (cumulative GPA) standards previously cited will lose eligibility for Title IV.
-
Students who fail to achieve the quantitative standards by the end of their probationary semester will lose eligibility for Title
IV.
