BT-101 KEYBOARDING I

  3 credits

  This course introduces students to keying on the computer, using proper keyboarding techniques to develop keyboarding accuracy. Basic character, paragraph, and page formatting will be covered and students will be taught how to format and compose basic business documents using a word processing program. Emphasis will be placed on the development of touch typing skills.

BT-110 INTRODUCTION TO COURT REPORTING

  3 credits

  Introduction to Court Reporting is a course in shorthand theory and technique through the use of a stenograph machine. Emphasis is machine shorthand theory, including proper fingering technique, abbreviations, phrases, oral reading of steno notes, and transcription assignments. Students will increase listening and concentration skills, which will aid in machine shorthand writing. Students will be introduced to gradual speed building with a high degree of accuracy

BT-111 COURT REPORTING THEORY & TECHNIQUE

  3 credits

  This course is a continuation of theory and technique from the Introduction for Court Reporting Class (BT-110) through the use of a stenograph machine. Emphasis continues to be on machine shorthand theory, including proper fingering technique, abbreviations, phrases, oral reading of steno notes, and transcription assignments. Students will further develop listening and concentration skills, which will aid in machine shorthand writing. Gradual speed building with a high degree of accuracy will aid students in automatic writing response. PREREQUISITE: BT-110

BT 112 COURT REPORTING THEORY & TECHNIQUE II

  3 Credits

  Willwill consist of a review of conflict free theory for writing on a computer compatible steno machine with major emphasis on development of reading and writing skills focusing on literary, jury charge and testimony material. PREREQUISITE: BT-111

BT 113 COURT REPORTING THEORY & TECHNIQUE III

  3 Credits

  Willwill be on the continued development of reading and writing skill on literary, testimony and jury charge material and high realtime translation rates. PREREQUISITE: BT-112

BT-150 KEYBOARDING II

  3 credits

  This course focuses on business document formatting. Students will learn how to format complex business correspondence, reports, tables and forms from rough draft sources. Students will focus on increasing keyboarding speed and accuracy. PREREQUISITE: BT-101

BT-160 WORD PROCESSING I

  3 credits

  This course introduces the students to the basics of word processing. Students will learn the necessary features and functions that will assist them in creating and formatting business documents, such as, letters, memos, envelopes, labels, reports, long documents, agendas, marketing, and sales documents. PREREQUISITE: BT-101 or CP101

BT-170 LEGAL TERMINOLOGY AND DOCUMENTS I

  3 credits

  This course focuses on the terminology and technology that is prevalent in today’s law office. Students will learn how to use transcription equipment and to create and format legal documents stressing proper legal terminology. PREREQUISITE: BT-150

BT 180 LEGAL TERMINOLOGY AND DOCUMENTS II

  3 credits

  An understanding of the terminology and documents used within the civil litigation with emphasis on definition, spelling and comprehension are covered in this course. Additionally students will be introduced to codes, rules, regulations and the relevant courts that exercise jurisdiction regarding civil litigation. Dictation, transcription and formatting aspects including proofreading and editing of civil litigation documents will be emphasized.
