    With the mood at Manchester United buoyed by Sunday's 1-0 victory over Chelsea, Rio Ferdinand yesterday extended a hand of friendship to Roy Keane after his captain's controversial interview with MUTV last week. Keane's complaints about team-mates - including Ferdinand - were so vitriolic that the station was forced to pull the show.

    "Roy obviously said what he felt but what he said about me is nothing that I didn't think myself," Ferdinand said. "I'm my own fiercest critic. He has every right to say what he did; he's the skipper."

    But the defender insisted that, contrary to reports, Keane made no mention of Ferdinand's salary. "He talked about my position for the two goals [in the 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough] and he was right," said Ferdinand. "He was absolutely spot on with his comments. Nobody would argue with them."

    Uefa's president Lennart Johansson yesterday criticised "greedy" G14 clubs for joining Charleroi in litigation designed to seek compensation for releasing players for international football. The Belgian club lost its Morocco international Abdelmajid Oulmers to a serious ankle injury last year, prompting the club to take Fifa to court.

    But Johansson said: "The Champions League gives the clubs the opportunity to make much more money than they did on an individual basis. Too many people involved in football are too greedy."
