A bomb has exploded and the London transport network is in meltdown. How should you react to keep yourself and your business going? This is the sort of scenario that will be presented to financial executives at 80 firms across the City of London and Canary Wharf today as part of the world's biggest-ever catastrophe drill.
KPMG and consultants Crisis Solutions, who have devised the scenarios, are keeping quiet about what the situations will involve.
However, managers could be tested on their ability to find buses to get staff to disaster recovery centres or prevent contamination in the event of a dirty bomb by separating employees.
The exercise, which involves more than 1,000 people, is being organised by the Financial Services Authority, the Bank of England and the Treasury - the Tripartite Authorities - under the scrutiny of American central bankers and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Last year's drill focused on ensuring computer systems could be re-activated as quickly as possible. During the July attacks on the Tube, however, there was little impact on infrastructure. Firms found it harder to account for staff, especially those who were travelling, and to relocate them.
As a result, the authorities have turned their attention to tackling mobile network overload and ensuring firms have emergency transport.
The FSA will review findings from today's three-hour exercise and compare how prepared firms and managers are.
So far, the Corporation of London has carried out more than 500 disaster rehearsals in the Capital.
